The next Fordham Fever Friday will be Friday, June 7th from 11am-4pm at Muller Park & Plaza (corner of E. Fordham Road and Creston Road) with a health theme. Fordham Fever Fridays will continue every first Friday of the month from May to October.
The Fordham Road BID's first outdoor movie, "The Amazing Spider-Man," shown April 26th at Fordham Plaza, was a great success, drawing over 75 moviegoers despite the cool spring evening. Families relaxed on blankets and chairs while an enhanced police presence made sure everyone was safe.
The next outdoor movie at Fordham Plaza will be "Despicable Me" on June 28th at 8:30PM, followed by "Megamind" July 27th. The last movie on September 6th will be chosen through a social media vote on the BID's Facebook page. So bring a chair or a blanket and your friends and come out to Fordham Plaza for some family fun!

Despicable Me: Friday, June 28th at 8:30pm
In a happy suburban neighborhood surrounded by white picket fences sits a black house with a dead lawn. Unbeknownst to the neighbors, hidden deep beneath this home is a vast secret hideout belonging to Gru, who delights in all things wicked. Armed with his arsenal of shrink rays, he vanquishes all who stand in his way. Until the day he encounters three orphaned girls who look at him and see something that no one else has ever seen: a potential Dad.
Megamind:Saturday, July 27th at 8:30pm
After super-villain Megamind kills his good-guy nemesis, Metro Man, he becomes bored since there is no one left to fight. He creates a new foe, Titan, who, instead of using his powers for good, sets out to destroy the world, positioning Megamind to save the day for the first time in his life.
Acclaimed children's author Britt Menzies, creator of the StinkyKids series, visited Fordham Road daycare 1199SEIU Child Care Corp April 19th. Menzies visited Pre-K classrooms, read from and signed her books, and visited with local parents. Menzies was a big hit with the children, teaching them to "always be a leader of good." Each child received copies of Menzies' books as part of the BID's Literacy Program in conjunction with NYC Councilman Joel Rivera to promote early childhood reading in Bronx children.

The Fordham Road BID Annual Meeting will take place June 6th at 9:30am at the Bronx Library Center. Business owners are encouraged to come out to see the accomplishments of the BID over the past year and learn about the goals and objectives of the upcoming year. More details to come.
- 9th Annual Sparkling the Heart of Fordham
The 9th Annual Sparkling the Heart of Fordham holiday event will be on a Friday in early December from 6-8pm at Bryan Park.
Citibank, one of the BID's partners, is excited to announce their Citi at Work program, a comprehensive financial services platform that enhances the employee benefits package offered by corporations. Companies and employees can choose from a wide range of savings and discounts on financial products and services, plus many financial education topics. The Citi at Work program consists of a dedicated Relationship Manager for your company, who aims to make your life easier, starting now. Citibank is also participating in the 2013 Teach Children to Save Day on April 23rd, 2013. Citibank officers are making themselves available to visit local schools and give a presentation to children about the importance of saving. Citibank has also designed a flexible lesson plan that can be used in many different school curricula about how and why children should start saving early. THE BID LAUNCHES A LITERACY PROGRAM AT ITS ANNUAL HOLIDAY EVENT!
The Fordham Road Business Improvement District (BID) and NYC Council Majority Leader Joel Rivera are launching the Fordham Road Literacy Program, an initiative aimed at increasing reading among local youth in the Bronx. In the upcoming months, the program will donate nearly 4,000 books to local community centers and youth organizations focusing on the youngest readers in the area. Additionally, the BID will help these community organizations host a series of seasonal events to distribute the books. The program was launched at the BID's Eighth Annual "Sparkling the Heart of Fordham" holiday event where over 500 books were given away.
The Fordham Road BID was one of the recipients of the first ever BID Challenge Awards, given out November 27th, 2012 at the Roosevelt House in Manhattan.The Fordham Road BID was one of seven recipients of this year’s BID Challenge Awards, a competitive grant from the New York Department of Small Business Services that provides funding for the most innovative neighborhood improvement proposals in Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) across New York City. The BID Challenge was designed to encourage the City’s 67 BIDs to strengthen their neighborhoods, attract jobs and bring investment through creative and innovative initiatives.
The Fordham Road BID received$26,000 to put on “Movies at the Plaza,” a series of outdoor movie nights at Fordham Plaza throughout the summer of 2013. A marketing campaign to promote the event will include banners along Fordham Road, extensive beautification in the area and a sanitation crew to keep the plaza clean before, during and after the events. Fordham Plaza is located at the entrance of the third largest shopping district in NYC with nearly 80,000 pedestrians passing through every day. This is part of a larger BID initiative to expand the BID's boundaries into Fordham Plaza and neighboring commercial properties.

The Fordham Road Business Improvement District (BID) is turning Fordham Road pink in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness. We are partnering with the American Cancer Society (ACS) to raise funds for the upcoming RELAY FOR LIFE events. Last year the BID raised $2,000 for the cause, help us beat that amount!
