THIRD ANNUAL "SPARKLING THE HEART OF FORDHAM" PROGRAM & EVENT
Our Third Annual “Sparkling the Heart of Fordham” Tree Lighting Ceremony took place on Friday, November 30, 2007. The festivities began with a press conference at 7PM inside Banco Popular at 301 East Fordham Road (between East Kingsbridge Road & Tiebout Avenue) with a performance by the Learning Tree Choir. This was followed by our tree lighting ceremony in Bryan Park at East Fordham Road & East Kingsbridge Road. Fordham Road was filled with the sounds of Fordham University's Gospel Choir who performed live in Bryan Park from 7-8PM. The event received extensive media and press coverage.

In addition, nearly sixty BID businesses are participated in a special Holiday Shopping Promotion in which they offered 10% public discounts (consumers must display one of the many BID sponsored newspaper advertisements, downloadable online coupons or a MetroCard at the time of purchases, some restrictions may apply) from Friday, November 30-Sunday, December 16, 2006. Most of these businesses will also have extended shopping hours on each Friday during the promotion (November 30th, December 7th and December 14th) until 9:00PM.

The map and guide is a useful tool in aiding shoppers on Fordham Road. It lists points of interest and every individual store within the BID, including a breakdown of categories. Copies of the map have been distributed to area colleges, restaurants, NYC agencies, tourism councils and many real estate developers. It will also be on display in certain public spaces within in the BID. To request copies of the BID map and guide, please call the BID office.

BID NETWORKING EVENTS
The BID co-hosted a Business Networking Event on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 from 6PM-8PM at Banco Popular at 301 East Fordham Road. This event was a large success with over 60 people in attendance that were treated to music, food, drinks and great conversation. Special thanks to Banco Popular and Fidelis Healthcare for co-sponsoring this program.

TWELFTH ANNUAL FORDHAM ROAD RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL

The event took place on Sunday, September 9, 2007 from 11AM-6PM on East Fordham Road between Morris Avenue and East Kingsbridge Road. Over 15,000 people attended and were treated to lots of activities and live music.
The BID's booth space promoted all of the BID businesses and the BID staff distributed thousands of giveaway bags which included our map and shopping guides, annual reports, newsletters and other promotional materials and flyers, coupons, literature, giveaways or sale / discount information that was supplied to us by participating BID businesses.

SECOND ANNUAL FORDHAM ROAD "ADVANTAGE" PROGRAM
The BID is proud to announce the Second Annual Fordham Road “Advantage” Program, scheduled to run from August 2007-July 2008. Premier business participants, currently 63 stores, will offer specified discounts to students, faculty, and staff members of participating area colleges, institutions, medical facilities and healthcare training centers who display their photo identification cards at the time of a purchase (participants include: 1199 SEIU Healthcare Training Center, ABC Training Center, Bronx Community College, Choice Care Professional Registry, Inc., CUNY on the Concourse, Family Support Systems Unlimited, Inc., Fordham University, Lehman College, Monroe College and Montefiore Medical Group on the Concourse). The discounts and offers range from a free gift with a purchase to up to 50% off a sale.
Most of last year’s 40 businesses have renewed and this year’s participants are encouraged to display “Advantage” decals, provided by the BID, in their windows or doors to indicate that they are enrolled.

MAKE MUSIC NEW YORK
On June 21, 2007, the BID played host to free outdoor concerts through particpation in a Citywide musical event, Make Music New York. The event was promoted by the organizers of Make Music New York and the locations within the BID were crowded with onlookers who enjoyed the sounds that filled Fordham Road.

SECOND ANNUAL MEETING
The BID's Second Annual Meeting was held on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at 9AM at the Bronx Library Center at 310 East Kingsbridge Road. Approximately 70 people were in attendance including our guest speaker, Donna Keren, PHD, VP for Research of NYC & Company. The BID presented two awards to helpful community members:

BID MERCHANT NETWORKING EVENT AT BANCO POPULAR
On Wednesday, May 16, 2007 the BID co-hosted a Merchant Networking Event from 6PM-8PM at Banco Popular at 301 East Fordham Road. Despite the rain storm, nearly 40 people were in attendance and they were treated to a night filled with food and music. Special thanks to Banco Popular and Fidelis Healthcare for sponsoring the event.
BANK OF AMERICA OPENS ON FORDHAM ROAD
On Wednesday May 9, 2007 Bank of America held a ribbon cutting ceremony to intoduce their new financial center at 248 East Fordham Road (corner of Valentine Avenue). Bank of America joined the Fordham Road community by co-sponsoring the 1st phase of the Bryan Park Restoration Project with the BID, NYC Dept. of Parks and Recreation and NYC Councilman Joel Rivera. In early June 2007 Bryan Park received new upgrades of plantings and mulch (see photo below).

FORDHAM ROAD BID MAGASSA & SOUMARE FAMILY FUND
The Fordham Road BID Magassa and Soumare Family Fund, organized through an existing Daily News charity fund, benefited the families of a Bronx fire tragedy that occurred on March 11, 2007.Thirteen BID business and property owners contributed monetary donations, gift certificates and product vouchers to this fund. The donations were presented to the Daily News, members of the Soumare family and Mr. Magassa at a press conference held at Levitz Furniture (2480 Grand Concourse) on Thursday, May 3, 2007.

2006 FORBES ENTERPRISE AWARD WINNER
After a rigorous judging process by a panel of business experts which considered thousands of entries, the BID was chosen as a winner of the 2006 Forbes Enterprise Award in the Non-Profit / Governmental Category. The award recognizes small busniesses for their visionary practices and achievements and the BID was acknowledged in an advertisement celebrating the winners in the April 16, 2007 issue of Forbes Magazine.

BRONX MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS AWARENESS HEALTH FAIR
On March 7, 2007 the BID participated in an event to mark MS Awareness Week in the Bronx. This event took place at the Rotunda at the Bronx Supreme Court and was well attended from the general public. The BID set up a table where we distributed over 300 gift bags and many other promotional materials including our Fordham Road Shopper's Directory and flyers outling specific events and programs.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH PROMOTION
