THIRD ANNUAL "SPARKLING THE HEART OF FORDHAM" PROGRAM & EVENT Our Third Annual “Sparkling the Heart of Fordham” Tree Lighting Ceremony took place on Friday, November 30, 2007. The festivities began with a press conference at 7PM inside Banco Popular at 301 East Fordham Road (between East Kingsbridge Road & Tiebout Avenue) with a performance by the Learning Tree Choir. This was followed by our tree lighting ceremony in Bryan Park at East Fordham Road & East Kingsbridge Road. Fordham Road was filled with the sounds of Fordham University's Gospel Choir who performed live in Bryan Park from 7-8PM. The event received extensive media and press coverage. Most of these businesses will also have extended shopping hours on each Friday during the promotion (November 30th, December 7th and December 14th) until 9:00PM. This event was a large success with over 60 people in attendance that were treated to music, food, drinks and great conversation. TWELFTH ANNUAL FORDHAM ROAD RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL (Little "shopper" takes home giveaway bag handed out at BID booth space) The event took place on Sunday, September 9, 2007 from 11AM-6PM on East Fordham Road between Morris Avenue and East Kingsbridge Road. Over 15,000 people attended and were treated to lots of activities and live music. The BID's booth space promoted all of the BID businesses and the BID staff distributed thousands of giveaway bags which included our map and shopping guides, annual reports, newsletters and other promotional materials and flyers, coupons, literature, giveaways or sale / discount information that was supplied to us by participating BID businesses. Premier business participants, currently 63 stores, will offer specified discounts to students, faculty, and staff members of participating area colleges, institutions, medical facilities and healthcare training centers who display their photo identification cards at the time of a purchase (participants include: 1199 SEIU Healthcare Training Center, ABC Training Center, Bronx Community College, Choice Care Professional Registry, Inc., CUNY on the Concourse, Family Support Systems Unlimited, Inc., Fordham University, Lehman College, Monroe College and Montefiore Medical Group on the Concourse). The event was promoted by the organizers of Make Music New York and the locations within the BID were crowded with onlookers who enjoyed the sounds that filled Fordham Road. Approximately 70 people were in attendance including our guest speaker, Donna Keren, PHD, VP for Research of NYC & Company. The BID presented two awards to helpful community members: 2006-2007 Community Partner of the Year: Pat Logan from Fordham Bedford Housing Corp. 2006-2007 Community Liaison of the Year: Lowell Hatch, 46th Precinct Community Council (BID staff presents framed plaque of 2006 Forbes Enterprise Award Notice to BID Chairman, Robert Berger at the 2007 Annual Meeting) BID MERCHANT NETWORKING EVENT AT BANCO POPULAR On Wednesday, May 16, 2007 the BID co-hosted a Merchant Networking Event from 6PM-8PM at Banco Popular at 301 East Fordham Road. Despite the rain storm, nearly 40 people were in attendance and they were treated to a night filled with food and music. BANK OF AMERICA OPENS ON FORDHAM ROAD On Wednesday May 9, 2007 Bank of America held a ribbon cutting ceremony to intoduce their new financial center at 248 East Fordham Road (corner of Valentine Avenue). Bank of America joined the Fordham Road community by co-sponsoring the 1st phase of the Bryan Park Restoration Project with the BID, NYC Dept. of Parks and Recreation and NYC Councilman Joel Rivera. In early June 2007 Bryan Park received new upgrades of plantings and mulch (see photo below).

The donations were presented to the Daily News, members of the Soumare family and Mr. Magassa at a press conference held at Levitz Furniture (2480 Grand Concourse) on Thursday, May 3, 2007. The award recognizes small busniesses for their visionary practices and achievements and the BID was acknowledged in an advertisement celebrating the winners in the April 16, 2007 issue of Forbes Magazine. This event took place at the Rotunda at the Bronx Supreme Court and was well attended from the general public. The BID set up a table where we distributed over 300 gift bags and many other promotional materials including our Fordham Road Shopper's Directory and flyers outling specific events and programs.
