OVER 2,000 BRAVED THE RAIN TO SEE SANTA ON FORDHAM ROAD
The Eighth Annual "Sparkling the Heart of Fordham" holiday and tree lighting event was a huge success despite a rainy evening. With host Rhina Valentin, the Gloria Dei Choir, raffles and of course Santa Claus visiting, there were more than enough reasons to keep a smile on the faces of an enthusiastic crowd. Over 700 toys and books were given away to help spread the joy of the holidays. The BID launched a literacy program at the event to promote reading among local youth. The Fordham Road Business Improvement District (BID) is proud to announce the unveiling of “Silver”, a ten foot tall sculpture of found and recycled material. Created by Christian Marche, a Bronx based artist, “Silver” was constructed from refuse collected from New York City streets and transformed into a sculpture. “Silver” was installed in July 2011 on the South-side overpass at the intersection of East Fordham Road and Grand Concourse.
This work of art was made possible through a partnership with the NYC Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Urban Art Program along with Barbara Bullard from the Al Johnson Art Studio. Additional funding for “Silver” was made possible with public funds from the Bronx Council on the Arts through the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs Greater New York Arts Development Fund Regrants Program.
The Fordham Road BID held its 7th Annual Meeting on May 31st, 2012. Over 80 people attended to hear highlights from the last year, including NYC Comptroller John Liu, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr., and NYC SBS Commissioner Robert Walsh.

On September 27th, the BID supported VISIONS in a new fundraiser called "Mix It Up" held at the Pine Bar & Grill. The event featured guest bartenders throughout the night, including the BID's own Wilma Alonso!
The Fordham Road Business Improvement District (BID) presented Fordham Fever Friday’s! taking place the first Friday of the month (Friday, July 6, August 3, September 7, and October 5, 2012) from 11AM-4PM at Muller Park & Plaza at East Fordham Road & Creston Avenue. Shoppers can take a break from bargain hunting to bring children to enjoy Native American Storytelling, stretch and learn how to make the most of a hot day work-out with a fitness challenge boot camp instructor, or listen to live music later in the afternoon. The event series will feature free Native American Storytelling with Bobby Gonzalez, free Belin Sports & Fitness Boot Camp Demos, live musical performances and much more.
The Fordham Road BID held its 7th annual Sparkling the Heart of Fordham holiday lighting event on December 2, 2011 from 6-8PM. Over 1,500 people attended and free toys were given away to over 600 children! There were also raffles of great sports memorabilia, gift certificates to local businesses, and passes to local attractions.
ST. BARNABAS HOSPITAL HONORS FORDHAM BID EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WILMA ALONSO
The Auxiliary of St. Barnabas Healthcare Facilities honored Wilma Alonso, Executive Director of Fordham Road BID as a shining star of the Bronx at it's 24th Annual Gala held on Tuesday June 24th at the Mariana Del Rey. Proceeds from this event went to the benefit of St. Barnabas Healthcare Facilities.
