FORDHAM ROAD GOES PINK IN OCTOBER TO HONOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH!
The Fordham Road Business Improvement District (BID) is turning Fordham Road pink for the month of October 2010 in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness. We are partnering with the American Cancer Society (ACS) to raise funds for the upcoming 7th Annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Event in Orchard Beach set for Sunday, October 17, 2010. The BID has team set up for the event, Fordham Road BID Goes Pink! During the month of October 2010, we are encouraging our business members to get involved and make a donation or you may sell event donor cards to your customers who wish to support the ACS. If you wish to receive these cards, please contact the BID office at (718) 562-2104.
BREAST CANCER AWARENESS NETWORKING EVENT
The BID also hosted a Business Networking Event on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 from 5PM-8PM at Applebee’s near Fordham Plaza at 4750-4758 Third Avenue. We had many attendees from throughout the district, and the American Cancer Society was on hand to collect donations. Thanks go to the many attendees and to The NetWorks.

PASSPORT TO FORDHAM ROAD “ADVANTAGE” PROGRAM
The BID is proud to announce the renewal of the PassporttoFordham Road “Advantage” Program, scheduled to run from August 2009 - July 2011. Premier business participants, currently 110 stores, will offer specified discounts to students, faculty,and staff members of participating area colleges, institutions, medicalfacilities and healthcare training centers who display their identification /membership cards at the time of a purchase.
Fordham Road BID recently unveiled new evergreen shrubs, flowers, and ground covers in outdoor containers outside Muller Park on East Fordham Road and Creston Avenue at 190th Street. Sustainable South Bronx also came to assist with the plantings with the help of their best Eco graduates on Friday July 9, 2010.
The BID will provide ongoing care and maintenance of the planters with daily watering and Sustainable South Bronx Best ECO graduates will assist with the pruning as needed.
The planter containers, soil and compost were made possible through partnership with the NYC Department of Transportation and the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation.

CAROLINE KENNEDY KICKS OFF 2009 SHOP FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS WEEK
On Friday
September 25th, 2009, at Modell’s Sporting Goods on Fordham Road the
Fordham Road Business Improvement District (BID) presentedCaroline Kennedy,
Vice Chair of the Fund for Public Schools, with a check from Bronx retailers in
support of this year’s Shop for Public Schools. An unprecedented number of
Bronx businesses took part in this
city-wide program, which took place from October 1 – 8, 2009.
